Title: A Fictitious Interview: Walter Cronkite and The Swedish Chef Subtitle: A study in journalistic gravity and culinary chaos.

Transcript

Setting: A sterile television studio, circa 1977. Two chairs sit under harsh lights. WALTER CRONKITE, the picture of journalistic integrity, sits in one. The SWEDISH CHEF, a being of pure culinary entropy, occupies the other, his hands fidgeting.

CRONKITE: (Gravely, to camera) Good evening. Tonight, we have a special guest who has redefined the culinary arts with a style that can only be described as... avant-garde. I'm speaking, of course, of the Swedish Chef. Chef, thank you for being with us.

CHEF: (Nods enthusiastically) Bork, bork, bork!

CRONKITE: Indeed. Chef, your approach to cooking is unorthodox. You eschew traditional recipes, preferring a more... kinetic method. What is the philosophy behind this?

CHEF: (Leans forward, his voice a conspiratorial whisper) De goobledy-gook. De smorgasbord, see? Yorn desh, desh, desh! (He mimes throwing something over his shoulder. A lone mushroom arcs through the air and lands on Cronkite's desk.)

CRONKITE: (Pauses, staring at the mushroom) I see. So it's about a... holistic sensory experience?

CHEF: (Slams his hands on the table) Bork! Bork! Bork! (He produces a chicken puppet from under the table and begins a vigorous, one-sided argument with it.)

CRONKITE: (Adjusts his glasses, a flicker of existential weariness in his eyes) We seem to be experiencing some... technical difficulties. We'll be right back after these messages.

(Cronkite sighs, removes his glasses, and rubs the bridge of his nose. The Chef continues to argue with the puppet, the sounds of mock-strangulation echoing softly in the studio.)

CRONKITE: (To himself, quietly) And that's the way it is.
