The deliberate starvation of Oleshky is Russian policy in plain sight, an engineered collapse of a town and its people.
The Destruction of Oleshky
Aerial footage reveals what remains of the town. Collapsed roofs on the Children's Educational Institution No. 2 "Svitlyachok." The ruined music school reduced to rubble. Streets strewn with debris from buildings deliberately left to rot, an engineered collapse.
Pre-war population stood at around 24,000. Today roughly 2,000 people are trapped there, mostly elderly, women and children. After the 2023 destruction of the Kakhovka dam, electricity, gas and clean water vanished. Since late May 2026 not a single regular food convoy has reached the city by road. Every approach is mined and kept under constant Russian fire control. Moscow is holding civilians hostage and slowly killing them.
People are surviving on garden plots, preserved food from before the war, and snails. Hospitals have run out of medicine. Bodies lie in the streets because occupiers forbid burial. The only exit route is known locally as the "road of death." Attempt it and you risk mines or FPV drones. Russian forces use these people as human shields while creating conditions that guarantee death by hunger and disease.
The Russian world.
Humanitarian Drones Under Fire
Since March 2026 Ukraine has run the largest humanitarian drone operations of the war. Heavy UAVs have dropped tons of food, medicine and children's kits directly over the city. In a short period our forces delivered thousands of kilograms of aid to desperate residents. Russian troops respond by shooting down the drones and stealing the packages meant for children and pensioners. They beat locals who try to collect the drops. Then they throw them into basements.
The pattern is systematic. Russia blocks all ground supply, prohibits evacuation, destroys infrastructure, then punishes any attempt to keep people alive from the Ukrainian side. They treat their so-called "own citizens" as disposable while screaming about humanitarian concerns elsewhere.
Winter and the Proof of Intent
Winter is weeks away. Without urgent action the death toll will explode. The footage from Oleshky shows destruction. It is proof of intent: gradual annihilation of a town and everyone left inside it.
Only sustained international outrage has produced faint signals about possible evacuation talks. Whether those signals become real corridors remains to be seen. The people of Oleshky cannot wait much longer.
