The Senate map is shifting.

The Senate map is shifting, and not in the direction the MAGA crowd expected. In March there were five genuinely contested seats; now there are seven, with Alaska, Iowa, and Texas all moving from safe Republican territory into tossup range.

The New Battleground

The polls have genuinely shifted, and the reason is not mysterious. This is what happens when a party ties itself to a president whose approval rating is underwater and whose policy agenda consists of tariffs, chaos, and loyalty tests.

The math for Democrats is simple but unforgiving. They need four of six battleground states and they cannot afford to lose Michigan. Right now they lead in exactly four: Maine, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas.

The Four Democratic Targets

In Maine, Susan Collins is fading, and her seat flipping would expand the Democratic majority, though she had been among the few pro-Ukraine Republicans left.

Paxton won the nomination and is now so unpopular that Texans are leaning toward Democrat James Talarico. Republicans may lose a Senate seat simply because Trump torpedoed a sitting senator for not kissing the ring hard enough.

The Loyalty Purge Backfires

Polymarket currently gives Democrats 53 percent to win the Senate, Republicans 47. It is only a possibility, but the Republican strategy of purging anyone who is not MAGA enough is collapsing in real time, and this signals that collapse.

A slow-motion collapse disguised as ideological purity.

If Democrats win those four states and hold Michigan, the Senate flips 51-49. At 50-50 the vice president breaks the tie, so Republicans would keep control. The margin is that narrow, and the seats Republicans are losing are the ones where they abandoned competence for loyalty.

The Broader Lesson

The broader lesson is not subtle. The party that long pretended Ukraine was a burden now watches its own electoral coalition fracture over the same rot. Pro-Ukraine Republicans are being pushed out, and the replacements are weaker candidates with worse instincts. That formula loses.
