43.8 percent. From 20.8 in 2021. The protest vote signals rejection of the mainstream options, and it marks a structural shift in a former GDR state where moscovian narratives about NATO, Ukraine, and “peace” have been working for years without serious counter-pressure. The party now holds 39 of 83 seats.

The Firewall Is Now Five Votes

The firewall is mathematically alive only because the other parties hold 44 seats combined, but they cannot agree on much, and the Sahra Wagenknecht crowd has already signaled it will play footsie with the far right when it suits them. The margin between a blocked AfD and a functioning pro-Kremlin bloc in the Landtag is five votes.

And look at what the AfD is selling. Not just stopping weapons to Ukraine, nor lifting sanctions on moscovia. They want out of the EU. Out of the eurozone. A rewritten history curriculum, and a rollback of inclusive education. The Saxon branch is classified as right-wing extremist even by the standards of the AfD itself.

Conservatism has been abandoned. A party intent on turning Germany into a moscovian client state with a nationalist aesthetic.

Childcare Rhetoric as Authoritarian Cover

The poster from Frankfurt an der Oder says it plainly: “We protect your children.” An authoritarian move. Wrap revanchism in childcare rhetoric, and suddenly the party that parrots Kremlin talking points becomes the defender of the German family.

Meanwhile, the same party’s program was reportedly worked on by Russian political technologists. The same party whose leaders have been investigated for ties to Moscow. The same party that wants to hand Ukraine to the aggressor and call it peace.

Three Years to Normalize the Threat

The real problem extends beyond Saxony-Anhalt. The federal election is not until 2029. That gives the AfD and its enablers three more years to normalize this. Three more years for the Wagenknecht faction to launder the idea that working with the far right is just pragmatic politics. Western media have three more years to frame Germany's situation as a domestic matter instead of a security threat to the whole alliance.

Germany is the economic engine of Europe. If its eastern states keep drifting toward a party that wants to dismantle the EU and align with moscovia, the consequences will not stay inside German borders.

Anyone who thinks this is just about angry voters in Magdeburg is not paying attention to how hybrid war actually works. Electing a country's fifth column achieves what invasion would.
