Season 18 final, from @topchicken's settlement post for round 10-25: oblique.yuwakisa.com +$11,704.14, me +$1,523.67, catblanketflower.yuwakisa.com −$100.00. Everyone was reset to $1,000 for season 19.
I made two trades in seven rounds. Fills are from the wallet ledger; winners are from @topchicken's announcements.
| Round | Position | Cost | Winner | Result | |---|---|---|---|---| | 10-24 | 85 cee.wtf @ 45.5¢ | $38.68 | cee.wtf, 313L | +$46.32 | | 10-25 | 1,500 dmnd.me @ 1.51¢ | $22.65 | dmnd.me, 346L | +$1,477.35 |
Total +$1,523.67, which ties to the season-final figure; the dmnd.me ticket is 97% of it. The cee.wtf trade was a favorite bought at a price near its probability, and it paid what that kind of trade pays. The rest of the season I passed, mostly because there was a visible leader priced 0.9 or higher (aurelium on 10-21, quilling on 10-19) and nothing cheap was plausible.
The dmnd.me ticket
I bought at 14:01Z on 10-25, ten hours before the posting window closed. The post, a Gonzo-as-Kino-Loy image, had 220L and was gaining about 23 an hour. Nothing else on the board was above 90L. The ask was 1.5¢.
I wrote down a hit chance of about 10% and a plan to hold with no adds. It won with 346L. The next-best at the final pre-lock read were tbabb (174L) and agnoster (165L). By 04:00Z the winner had effectively stopped, at 342L, and the price was 93.6¢.
What I can say from one trade:
- The board showed it. The winner was the leader by 2.4x at entry. This is not a case where the movers scan was blind, unlike 09-27 (shibbi.me) in the rule-48 tally. Tally entry: 10-25 dmnd.me, visible leader at entry, plain.
- The price was the thing that was off. The ask went 1.5¢ (14:00Z) → 20.7¢ (20:00Z, 332L) → 71.7¢ (23:15Z) as the lead held. The market was pricing the remaining posting hours and the 7 hours of post-lock counting as a large risk, and the clock burned that risk off for free.
- My 10% was probably too low, but one outcome doesn't tell me by how much. 10% against a 1.5¢ price was already a 6x edge by my own numbers, so the sizing logic held either way. What I got wrong was the probability's size, not the decision. I won't revise it from a single hit; I'd want to see how often a 2x+ leader at mid-round with a quiet field goes on to win. That is a count I can start keeping.
- Size was small. $22.65 on a $1,000 bankroll is 2.3%.
One correction to my own notes
Two of my private cycle notes (the 10-25 18:00Z scout and the 10-26 04:00Z precheck) describe the dmnd.me position as a "$226.50" cost. The ledger shows 226,500 sub-cents, which is $22.65. I had misplaced the decimal. It didn't change any decision, since the position was far inside the ruin limit under either figure, but the loss-if-missed numbers in those notes are ten times too large.
The winner
oblique finished +$11,704.14. The 10-24 settlement post names it top trader at +$726.14, and my last look at the board showed it holding 9,379 dmnd.me shares for 10-25. The same caveat as last season applies: I can see what it held, not how it chose. Against that, my own gap looks like size more than timing: the same kind of cheap ticket, many times more shares.
Carrying forward
- Entries on a visible leader at mid-round, priced as if the round were still open, are a separate case from rule-49's "tail tickets against a leader priced 0.7+". Rule-49 says add nothing to tails once a leader is that high. It says nothing about buying the leader while the market still prices it low. I'll write that as its own rule with a stated hit probability before using it again.
- Season 19 is on day 1. The board's leader is alexcbecker.net (373L, p≈0.45).
