Day 1667 and the Russian fuel crisis is now a full-blown clown

russian fuel crisis is now a clown show so loud even the neighbors are laughing. propaganda channels cant meme their way out, the fuel’s gone, sanctions are coming in hot, ukraine’s still pushing, and the regions are so broke they might start bartering potatoes for wi-fi. welcome to the “energy superpower” era, where you cant fill your tank in tyumen but you can always get a fresh batch of excuses from moscow.

fuel meltdown, russian edition

this isnt just a “tight supply” or “temporary logistics issue” like the talking heads keep chanting. whole regions like saratov, penza, tyumen, surgut are dry or running on fumes. tyumen, the oil and gas capital, cant keep the pumps open. thats like running out of pizza in naples. the biggest refineries in leningrad and nizhny novgorod are offline, drone strikes torch new targets every week, and the only thing moving faster than the price of gas is the line at the pump.

in some places, you drive 50 kilometers just to find a station that isnt closed or rationing. if you do find one, congrats, you get to pay the new, improved price, up in 53 regions and counting. the regime’s answer? “dont worry, we’re fixing it.” sure, just like they fixed the ruble, the army, and the potholes. lukoil stations only serve people with special fuel cards, and even those are hit or miss. gazprom stations were supposed to get a fresh delivery, but that was just another rumor. the only thing getting delivered reliably is disappointment.

why the wheels fell off

its not just the drone strikes, though those are putting holes in more than just refinery roofs. the real problem is the russian oil industry is built on the same foundation as their democracy: duct tape, denial, and a prayer. years of sanctions, zero investment in upgrades, and a management style that’s basically “steal everything that isnt nailed down” means the system was already creaking. now, with ukraine hitting refineries like its a national sport, the whole thing’s falling apart.

autumn’s coming, so even more refineries need to shut down for maintenance, except there’s no money, no parts, and no plan. the regime’s new export is lines at the gas station. forget oil and gas, the hottest thing out of russia right now is footage of people waiting hours for a few liters of fuel. “import substitution” turned into “import humiliation” real quick. and the best part? the propaganda machine is still trying to spin this as a western plot, as if joe biden is hiding in the bushes outside saratov with a jerry can.

sanctions: the sequel

the west isnt just watching this dumpster fire, they’re about to throw more fuel (lol) on it. new rounds of sanctions are lined up, targeting everything from oil exports to tech imports. the regime’s answer is always “we’ll just trade with china and india,” but even those partners are getting tired of the circus. china wants discounts, india wants to pay in rupees, and both want to avoid getting caught in the crossfire of secondary sanctions.

the kremlin’s “parallel imports” scheme is basically a bunch of guys in belarus with fake invoices and a prayer. good luck running a modern economy on that. while moscow’s busy playing whack-a-mole with sanctions, the regions are getting absolutely rinsed. big cities might still have some cash and connections, but out in the sticks, it’s a different story. budgets are gutted, social programs are on life support, and the only thing going up is the price of everything.

local officials are quietly panicking, but nobody wants to say it out loud because the last guy who complained got a one-way ticket to “volunteer” at the front. the regime keeps promising “support for the regions,” but all that means is another round of paperwork and maybe a stern lecture about “patriotic endurance.” translation: you’re on your own, comrade.

ukraine’s still coming, kremlin’s still coping

ukraine’s not just sitting back and watching. the counteroffensive keeps grinding forward, especially around lyman and other hot spots. every time a z blogger posts a “victory report,” the map gets a little more blue and a little less red. the russian army’s big innovation this month is losing ships in novorossiysk and getting smoked by french artillery. the “second army of the world” is now mostly famous for running out of gas, both literally and figuratively.

every time the kremlin tries to distract with nuclear blackmail or some fake referendum, the only thing anyone notices is another refinery going up in smoke. the regime’s out of ideas, out of money, and almost out of fuel. the propaganda machine is running on fumes, the army’s running on empty, and the only thing still working at full capacity is the ministry of excuses.

the only thing getting denazified is the russian wallet.

mood on the street: numb is the new normal

according to the levada center (the last semi-honest pollster left in russia), the number of people feeling stressed, angry, or scared is actually dropping. not because things are getting better, but because people are just numb. when you’ve spent two years watching your country get sanctioned, bombed, and looted by its own elites, you stop caring. it’s not “everything’s fine,” it’s “whatever, just dont take my last potato.”

the regime loves to brag about “stability,” but what they’ve really achieved is apathy. that’s not resilience, that’s learned helplessness. and dont even get me started on mobilization. the next wave is always “just around the corner,” but nobody wants to be the first to say it out loud. the kremlin’s strategy is to keep everyone guessing, keep the fear simmering, and hope that nobody notices the front line is still moving the wrong way.

meanwhile, the brain drain continues, anyone with a passport and a clue is already gone or planning their exit. the only people left are the ones too broke, too old, or too scared to leave. the russian dream in 2026: a lada that starts, a neighbor who’s poorer than you, and a government that only calls when it needs cannon fodder.

endgame: running on vibes and propaganda

so what’s the endgame here? the regime’s out of ideas, out of money, and almost out of fuel. ukraine’s not backing down, the west isn’t letting up, and the regions are one bad harvest away from open revolt. the only thing holding it all together is inertia and fear.

but hey, at least the kremlin can still hold a parade. maybe next year they’ll do it on bicycles, since nobody’s got gas for the tanks. or maybe they’ll just livestream the line at the gas station and call it a “patriotic gathering.” either way, the circus rolls on, and the only thing getting denazified is the russian wallet.

bottom line: the “energy superpower” is now a punchline, the sanctions are just getting started, ukraine’s still coming, and the regions are broke enough to start selling their own excuses. the regime can spin, distract, and threaten all it wants, but you cant run a country on vibes and propaganda forever. eventually, even the best meme runs out of gas.
