russia used to flex about being so huge youd freeze before you even saw moscow. now its please stop flying lawnmowers into our gas plants, we cant cover all this with one s-400 and a prayer. ben hodges called it, size aint a superpower anymore, its a liability, and ukraine is out here running the map like gta with infinite drone ammo.
the old depth meme is dead
for centuries, russia’s whole military doctrine was “let the land eat the invader.” napoleon, hitler, whoever, just keep retreating, burn the crops, let winter do the heavy lifting. worked when your enemy had to march for months and supply lines were horses and vodka. now? ukraine’s sending drones 3,000 km into the arctic to light up gas plants in yamal. that’s not a supply line, that’s a flight path, and the only thing freezing is the russian air defense budget.
you cant cover a country the size of a continent with a handful of 1970s missile batteries and a bunch of conscripts who thought they were signing up for a desk job. every time ukraine hits another oil refinery, or a wildberries warehouse goes up like a vape shop in a fireworks factory, you see the real problem: russia’s too big to defend, too broke to fix it, and too corrupt to even try.
the old “depth” advantage is a meme now. used to be, you could lose a million men and just shrug, “eh, we’ve got more.” now, every time they try to mobilize, half the country’s sprinting for the border and the other half is hiding in the woods with a bottle of brake fluid. putin cant even say the word “mobilization” without the ruble shitting itself and telegram lighting up with “urgent vacation to kazakhstan” posts.
logistics is war, and russia’s is a dumpster fire
ukraine’s not even trying to take moscow. theyre just making sure russia cant move fuel, cant move gear, cant move troops. burn the logistics, and suddenly it doesnt matter if you’ve got a million guys, they’re all stuck in belgorod arguing over who gets the last can of expired stew. wildberries and ozon warehouses, built to make russia “efficient,” now just make for better fireworks shows. every time one goes up, that’s another batch of drones, vests, and night vision that’s not making it to the front.
war is logistics, and russia’s logistics are now a smoking crater with a z flag on top. the kremlin’s still playing the “we’re winning, honest” game. z bloggers update their maps from 600 km behind the lines, coloring in “liberated” potato fields while the actual army is getting rolled back across the oskil. gerasimov’s big plan to surround sloviansk and kramatorsk? about as successful as a lada in january.
ukrainian opsec is so tight, putin’s getting his briefings from the same guys who said “kyiv in three days.” spoiler: they’re not even in kyiv, they’re in a bunker somewhere in rostov, praying the next drone doesn’t have their name on it.
mobilization panic and home front denial
every time the regime hints at another mobilization, the denial comes faster than a vodka shot at a funeral. “no plans for mobilization,” says putin. “definitely not,” says medvedev. translation: pack your bags, boys, it’s draft season. the only thing holding them back is the fear that the next wave of conscripts will just riot, or worse, show up at the kremlin with more questions than bullets.
but hey, at least they’ve got hybrid war, right? drones in leipzig, rockets in poland, “gray zone” shenanigans all over europe. the goal? make everyone so numb to russian bullshit that nobody even blinks when a belarusian and a russian torch a german airport.
- drones in leipzig
- rockets in poland
- sabotage and “accidents” across europe
problem is, europe’s finally waking up. you can only play “oops, it was an accident” so many times before people start asking why your fingerprints are on every matchbook.
america’s eating itself while russia prays for a nato excuse
while all this is going on, the us is busy eating itself alive. hodges is out here getting grilled by europeans: “what the hell happened to america?” used to be, the us was the gold standard for checks and balances. now it’s just checks for the president’s family and balances in offshore accounts. trump’s back in the white house, and the only thing he’s checking is which russian oligarch paid for his kid’s wedding. (spoiler: it’s the same guy under ukrainian sanctions for kidnapping kids. family values, right?)
the pentagon’s getting cleaned out like it’s spring break at mar-a-lago. generals and admirals getting fired for not being maga enough, or for being the wrong color, or just because they looked at hegseth funny. nobody in congress cares, because they’re too busy arguing about pronouns and pretending the military runs itself. the only thing running is the talent, out the door, into retirement, or straight to a defense contractor gig.
back to russia: the regime’s so desperate for a win, they’re begging for a nato provocation. “please, bomb us, give us an excuse to draft another million guys.” but nato’s not biting, and ukraine’s not stopping. every time the us president tweets “both sides agreed to stop,” ukraine’s like “lol, no,” and russia’s like “we never agreed to shit.” the only thing they can agree on is that the washing machines are still missing.
propaganda’s running on fumes
russia’s own people are starting to notice. you can’t hide a burning refinery or a blown-up warehouse. you can’t tell babushka in yaroslavl that the price of diesel is ukraine’s fault when she’s watching her neighbor’s kid come home in a box. the propaganda’s running out of runway, and all the regime’s got left is nuclear blackmail and “look over there, it’s nato!” nobody’s buying it except the hardcore vatniks, and even they’re starting to wonder why the “second army of the world” needs to crowdfund for socks.
ukraine, meanwhile, is giving a masterclass in “how to punch above your weight.” they’re not just surviving, they’re making russia’s size work against it. every new drone, every new strike, every new burned-out logistics hub is another reminder that “big” doesn’t mean “strong” - it just means you’ve got more targets and less ability to cover them.
the old empire model is dead, and the only people who don’t get it are the ones still watching kremlin tv and thinking the laugh track is real.
so yeah, russia’s size is a vulnerability now. it’s too big to defend, too corrupt to adapt, and too stuck in the past to realize the game has changed. ukraine’s not playing by the old rules, and every day that goes by, the regime looks more like a guy yelling at the clouds while his house burns down behind him. the only thing holding it all together is inertia, and even that’s running out.
in the end, the real flex isn’t how much land you’ve got, it’s what you can actually hold, protect, and supply. russia’s got a lot of land. ukraine’s got a lot of brains. guess which one wins in the long run.
if you’re still buying the “russia is winning” line, i’ve got a bridge in crimea to sell you. cheap, slightly used, may explode without warning.
