Ben Hodges out here dropping the kind of takes that make vatniks

ben hodges out here dropping takes so spicy vatniks are gonna need a fire extinguisher for their pelmeni. russia’s size, the thing they never shut up about, is now the biggest L on their stat sheet. used to be “general winter” was the boogeyman, now it’s just “general can’t cover half the map.” ukraine’s tossing drones 3000km into the arctic, roasting gas plants in yamal, and kremlin air defense is out here playing whack-a-mole with no mallet. when your country’s the size of a planet but your budget’s the size of a lada’s trunk, you can’t defend squat. every new ukrainian drone strike is a geography lesson for moscow: “here’s another place you can’t protect, enjoy the fireworks.”

russia’s big map, big problems

the old “general winter” cope is dead, buried next to the last working t-90. now, russia’s size is a liability, not a flex. ukraine’s drones are hitting targets so far north, even santa’s sweating. yamal gas plants, oil depots, you name it, ukraine’s got the range and russia’s got the insurance claims.

every strike is a reminder that “second army of the world” is just a marketing line scribbled on a drunk napkin. the kremlin’s air defense can’t cover half the map, and every new hit is a dart in the board. russia’s geography is now a giant target, not a shield.

every ukrainian drone strike is a geography lesson for moscow: “here’s another place you can’t protect, enjoy the fireworks.”

z bloggers and the fortress flop

on the ground, z bloggers are updating their maps so fast you’d think they’re speedrunning defeat. gerasimov’s “fortress belt” plan, supposed to encircle sloviansk and kramatorsk, looked great on paper until ukrainian troops yeeted them back across the oskil. four months of opsec so tight even putin’s astrologer didn’t see it coming.

now the only thing encircled is russian morale, and the only “belt” left is the one they’re tightening around their own necks. every time the front shifts, z bloggers need a new color code for “oops, lost this one too.” russian maps are doing more cardio than their conscripts.

mobilization: same meat, new grinder

kremlin says “no plans” for mobilization, which in russian means “start packing, boys.” the whole mobilization machine is built, just waiting for a good excuse—maybe a nato “provocation,” maybe just because it’s tuesday. but even if they drag another hundred thousand poor saps off the street, logistics win wars, not meat waves.

ukraine’s torching wildberries and ozon distribution centers like it’s black friday for himars. doesn’t matter how many conscripts you throw at the front if your supply chain is a smoking crater and your amazon knockoff is out of stock. russia’s war plan: lose men, lose trucks, lose the plot.

hybrid war and the nato poke

russia’s out here poking nato with drone attacks on german airports, hoping someone finally punches back so they can scream “see, we’re the victims!” it’s all about desensitizing the west, making missile strikes on eu soil just another tuesday. the longer europe lets this slide, the bolder the kremlin gets.

the real joke? russia can’t hit the drone factories in nato countries, so they settle for belarusian and russian agents playing “mission impossible” at leipzig airport. spoiler: tom cruise they ain’t. kremlin’s hybrid war is just cosplay with explosives.

american clown car

back in the us, it’s a clown show. trump’s blaming ukraine for gas prices while pretending his war with iran didn’t nuke the oil market. his base is out here yelling at clouds, convinced it’s all zelensky’s fault their f-150 costs a fortune to fill up. meanwhile, trump’s demanding ukraine stop hitting russian oil infrastructure, but not a peep about putin’s nightly missile spam on ukrainian cities.

the only thing more see-through than this double standard is the “peace deal” kushner and vitkoff are hawking—two real estate bros treating ukraine like a fixer-upper, not a country fighting for its life. america first, but only if the kremlin picks up the tab.

corruption, pentagon purge, and euro cringe

the corruption? chef’s kiss. trump jr. gets a wedding paid for by a russian oligarch so deep in putin’s pocket he’s got lint on his face. the same guy running a “charity” sanctioned for kidnapping ukrainian kids. but sure, tell me again how it’s all about “america first.” if you pay for the orchestra, you pick the tune—and the kremlin’s been djing at mar-a-lago for years.

meanwhile, the pentagon’s getting gutted. generals and admirals fired for not being maga enough, replaced by yes-men who couldn’t organize a parade, let alone a war. congress is asleep at the wheel, too busy rage-tweeting to notice the military’s bleeding talent and ammo like a stuck pig. hegseth’s more interested in culture wars than actual wars, and the only thing getting exercised is his ego.

europe’s watching all this and asking, “what the hell happened to america?” used to be the gold standard for checks and balances, now it’s a reality show with nukes. hodges is right—if americans don’t show up and vote, they’ll get the government they deserve, good and hard. but hey, at least ukraine’s showing what real spirit looks like. freezing, bombed, outgunned, and still fighting like hell. makes the west’s excuses look even weaker.

bottom line: the circus is coming

russia’s size is now a giant target, not a shield. ukraine’s tech boom is turning the map into a dartboard, and every hit exposes just how hollow the “second army of the world” really is. the kremlin’s too busy laundering war crimes and wedding bills to notice the walls closing in. and if the west doesn’t get its act together, they’ll be next in line for the circus.

russian victory is always just one more mobilization, one more map, one more “provocation” away. meanwhile, the only thing moving fast is the cope.
