Russia’s biggest flex used to be “we’re so damn huge, you’ll freeze

russia used to flex about being so big youd freeze before you got halfway to moscow, now theyre begging ukraine to stop roasting their gas plants in the arctic because the air defense ran out somewhere near perm. ben hodges called it, size aint a shield anymore, its a giant neon target, and ukraines drones are stress-testing every square meter like amazon prime with a grudge.

size as a liability, not a shield

the only thing russia’s landmass is soaking up these days is insurance claims and telegram cope. back in the day, being the world’s biggest country meant you could lose a million guys and still have enough left to lose another million. now it just means you cant cover your own ass, because you got more border than working radars.

ukraine’s drones are hitting gas plants in yamal, and the only thing stopping them is the price of fuel, not russian air defense. the “second army of the world” is out here playing whack-a-mole with ikea lamps and calling it integrated air defense. every new strike is a fresh panic attack for the regime, because they cant defend everything, so they defend nothing well.

the empire that bragged about swallowing invaders is now getting indigestion from a country half its size and twice its brains.

logistics meltdown and the cope economy

every time ukraine torches another wildberries warehouse or ozon hub, some vatnik on tv screams about “nato aggression” while ordering a new dashcam from the same warehouse that just got smoked. russia spent billions building amazon knockoffs, now theyre just giving ukraine more stuff to blow up.

logistics is the real war, and russia’s got the supply chain resilience of a soviet grocery store. you can have all the conscripts you want, but if your drones, fuel, and socks are burning in a warehouse outside kazan, good luck storming kramatorsk. the only thing moving forward is the river oskil, and even that’s running out of patience.

mobilization denial and the meat grinder

the kremlin’s still allergic to the m-word, because nothing says “we’re winning” like pretending you dont need another 300,000 bodies for the meat grinder. every time putin or medvedev denies a new draft, you know the draft is coming. its a drinking game at this point.

theyre so desperate for cannon fodder, theyre running recruitment ads between soap operas and hoping nobody notices the local graveyard’s got a new wing. gerasimov’s big plan to encircle slovyansk and kramatorsk is going great, if by “great” you mean “completely wiped out and begging for reinforcements on z-blogs.”

the us circus and western doomscrolling

meanwhile, the real circus is the us side. hodges is watching the white house get run like a discount real estate seminar, with trump’s crew outsourcing ukraine policy to two guys who think “negotiation” means reading russian demands off a napkin. the secretary of defense is busy doing pushups for instagram while firing every general who’s ever read a map.

the only thing more unstable than the pentagon’s org chart is the price of diesel, and somehow that’s ukraine’s fault too. trump starts a war with iran, oil hits $106 a barrel, and suddenly it’s zelensky’s problem that your f-150 costs more to fill than your mortgage. congress is asleep at the wheel, the pentagon’s run by gym bros, and the only thing bipartisan is blaming someone else.

oligarch weddings and regime rot

dont even get me started on the wedding. trump jr gets a russian oligarch to pay for his island party, and the only thing more embarrassing than the guest list is pretending it’s not a bribe. “if you pay for the orchestra, you pick the music” except in this case, the music is just the russian anthem on repeat and a bunch of sanctions violations.

the same crew that’s supposed to be brokering peace in ukraine is out here doing vodka shots with the guys laundering kidnapped kids. but hey, at least the fireworks were nice. back in russia, the regime’s still selling the same old “fortress under siege” story, except the only thing getting surrounded is their own troops north of lyman.

ukraine’s playbook and the new rules

while ukraine’s out here running textbook combined arms ops, keeping opsec so tight even zelensky’s barber doesn’t know what’s next, russia’s generals are feeding putin fairy tales and hoping he doesn’t notice the front line’s now somewhere in the rearview. the only thing the kremlin’s got left is launching missiles at apartment blocks and praying someone in nato gets bored enough to stop sending drones.

ukraine’s lesson is simple: spirit beats size when size is just a liability. russia’s geography is now a giant “kick me” sign, and ukraine’s got steel-toed boots. the regime can keep pretending it’s 1941, but the world’s moved on. the only thing russia’s exporting these days is refugees and excuses, and even those are running low.

so yeah, russia’s size is a vulnerability now. turns out, when your empire is built on fear, lies, and a thousand kilometers of empty steppe, all it takes is a handful of drones and a country that refuses to die to turn your biggest flex into your biggest l.

russia’s top export is guys sprinting away from it with a backpack.
