russian air force out here speedrunning the "falling with style" category, and the only thing flying reliably is the cope. every week its another su-34 or ka-52 turned into a bonfire, and the z bloggers are coping so hard youd think denial was a national sport.
another week, another crater
every time a russian jet eats a stinger, the ministry of defense drops a new fairy tale. "planned landing," "technical malfunction," "it was old anyway," or my favorite, "nato did it." bro, if nato was half as busy as you claim, half your air force would be in orbit by now. meanwhile, ukrainian farmers are out here collecting su-34 parts for their next chicken coop.
the z bloggers go through the five stages of grief every time a plane gets smoked. first its "fake news," then "it was a decoy," then "we never needed air superiority," and finally, "nato did it." rinse, repeat, cope harder. the only thing more reliable than these excuses is the sound of another jet hitting the dirt.
the only thing russia’s air force is dominating is the leaderboard for “most expensive lawn ornaments in ukraine.”
why russia keeps eating missiles
russia started this mess thinking theyd have air supremacy by lunch. turns out, ukraine didnt get the memo. instead, they built a no-fly zone out of soviet leftovers, nato hand-me-downs, and engineers who can macgyver a missile out of a tractor and some duct tape. every glide bomb run is a coin flip between "mission accomplished" and "meet mr. patriot."
its not just the gear, its the tactics, or the lack of them. russia keeps flying the same routes, same times, same playbook they used in chechnya and syria, like ukraine is just another sandbox. except this time, the targets shoot back, and theyve got better aim than half the russian pilots who bribed their way through flight school.
russian drones now come with belarusian sim cards, because nothing says military genius like outsourcing your comms to lukashenko’s burner phone network. when the belarusians try to cut the signal, the drones still get through, because the only thing more resilient than russian corruption is the belarusian cell network.
propaganda on autopilot
the kremlin propaganda machine is working overtime. one day its "the pilot heroically steered the burning plane away from a kindergarten," next day its "the west is sending invisible missiles." theyll show you a blurry video of a plane on fire and call it a "minor incident," then quietly scrub the pilot’s name from the records and hope nobody asks questions.
but the numbers dont lie. the russian air force is bleeding hardware and pilots at a rate that would make even soviet generals wince. you cant just throw conscripts in a cockpit and hope for the best. training a fighter pilot takes years, and russias best are either dead, in exile, or flying private jets for oligarchs who dont want to end up on a sanctions list.
every time russia loses another plane, the regime acts like its no big deal. "we have plenty more," they say, as if sukhois grow on trees and pilots are just waiting in line for their turn to get roasted. reality check: those planes are expensive, the parts are under sanctions, and the pilots are irreplaceable. you cant just 3d print a new su-34 or order a batch of ka-52s off aliexpress.
ukraine levels up, russia levels down
ukraine’s getting better at this game. every new western system is another headache for the russians. patriots, iris-ts, nasams, you name it. each one closes the sky a little more. every time russia tries to adapt, ukraine adapts faster. they move their launchers, spoof the radars, and keep the russians guessing. its like watching a bear try to outsmart a swarm of bees. the bear gets stung, the bees get smarter, and the honey stays out of reach.
ukraine’s air defense crews are basically speedrunning the "shoot down a russian jet" achievement. theyre posting selfies with burning wreckage in the background, and the only thing more common than a downed su-34 is a russian mod denial. at this point, the kremlins official response to any loss is just a shrug and a new batch of propaganda about "unstoppable" missile barrages that somehow keep missing their targets and hitting empty fields.
meanwhile, the z bloggers are still out here pretending its all part of the plan. "were luring the enemy in," they say, as another helicopter gets smoked over the front. "were saving our best for later," as if the best isnt already rusting in a hangar or getting stripped for parts. the only thing theyre saving is face, and even thats running out of paint.
morale in freefall
russian pilots know the odds. they see the videos, they hear the stories. every mission could be their last, and for what? to bomb another apartment block, to hit a power station, to make putin feel like a big man on tv? the billionaires are calling him crazy, the generals are blaming each other, and the only thing flying high is the vodka consumption rate.
you cant build an air force on fear and vodka. at some point, even the diehards start asking if its worth it. every loss is a little less air cover for the ground troops, a little more panic in the command posts, and a little more proof that the "second army of the world" is just a marketing slogan with a body count.
lets not kid ourselves, russia can still do damage. theyve got plenty of missiles, plenty of drones, and zero shame about hitting civilian targets. but every time they lose another plane, the holes get harder to patch, and the excuses get thinner.
russian air force: now serving as ukraines most expensive lawn ornaments. at this rate, the only thing left flying will be the excuses.
russian tv: we have infinite planes. russian reality: please donate for parachutes, ours keep turning into laundry bags.
