You know it’s a special kind of circus when even the Kremlin’s

the only thing more fragile than the kremlin’s truth is a z-blogger’s ego after ukraine drops receipts. imagine spending years calling every retreat a “minor tactical withdrawal” and then acting shocked when the regime’s been feeding you fairy tales with a side of body bags. welcome to the russian info space, where the world’s most expensive larp just got a reality check and the hype squad is screaming “they lied all the way up to the top.”

receipts, not rumors

ukraine’s 3rd army corps just dropped actual video and photo proof of russian pows, not a couple of lost conscripts but a hundred faces on camera. total haul for the vivaldi op? two hundred and fifty russian soldiers in ukrainian custody. that’s not a rounding error, that’s a bus tour with a group discount.

the russian ministry of defense? not a peep. no “deepfakes,” no “actors from kyiv,” just pure radio silence. they’re hoping if they ignore it long enough, maybe the problem will wander off and get lost in the woods like half their mobilized troops. the only thing more consistent than their denials is the front line moving the wrong way.

meanwhile, z-channels are eating each other alive. “pora domoy” went from “filter your information, comrades” to full-on witch hunt in three days. first, they tell everyone to ignore “hysteria” about lyman, then rage that enemy media is focusing on lyman while the usual distractions—gasoline shortages, marketplace scams, rigged elections—go quiet. when even the professional cope dealers run out of distractions, you know it’s bad.

blame the messenger, not the mess

the new z-channel solution? blame anyone abroad for “spreading panic,” as if the real problem is the messenger, not the fact that the front keeps moving backwards. it’s classic kremlin logic: if you cant fix the disaster, just shoot the guy who tweeted about it.

then you get oleg tsaryov, the regime’s favorite washed-up talking head, suddenly preaching about truth. he’s out here reminding everyone that back in 2022, when russia got booted from balakliya and izyum, the official line was “regrouping.” yeah, we just decided to run 50 kilometers backwards for cardio.

fast forward to 2024, ukrainian troops stroll into kursk region, and the next day gerasimov is on tv saying “the enemy’s advance has been stopped.” five days later, the acting governor is still pretending nothing happened, while locals are busy googling “how to say asylum in kazakh.” tsaryov’s big takeaway? “you can’t let the enemy have the truth about the front.” bro, the enemy already has the truth, they’re the ones filming your guys surrendering in hd.

propaganda eats itself

the regime’s own propaganda machine is starting to eat itself. when the front collapses, the first instinct isn’t to fix the problem, it’s to find someone to blame for talking about it. z-bloggers are split between the “everything is fine, trust the plan” crowd and the “we’ve been lied to by everyone, including the supreme one” doomsquad. the only thing they agree on is that someone, somewhere, is sabotaging russia by telling the truth.

it’s like watching a bunch of arsonists argue about who left the stove on while the house burns down. nobody wants to admit the house is on fire, but everyone’s got a theory about who started it. the only innovation is how fast the narrative collapses now. used to take weeks, now it’s hours. by the time the ministry of defense finishes their morning coffee, the whole country’s already seen the drone footage.

the only thing more dangerous than a ukrainian drone is a russian with a working internet connection and a brain.

reruns and receipts

let’s not pretend this is new. every time ukraine makes a move, the kremlin’s first response is to gaslight their own people. remember the “regroupings” of 2022? the “fortified lines” that turned out to be a couple of trenches and a prayer? the “no losses” press releases while telegram fills up with burning tanks and abandoned gear? it’s a rerun with worse special effects every season.

what’s really got the propagandists sweating isn’t just the battlefield losses, it’s the receipts. ukraine’s gotten real good at dropping proof—pows, drone strikes, liberated territory—before the kremlin can even spin up the denial machine. the vivaldi operation? announced in september, but actually running since may, with three stages and 176 square kilometers clawed back. by the time the regime admits something happened, the world’s already seen the before and after on google maps.

the only thing more outdated than their tanks is their pr strategy.

scoreboard anxiety

now you’ve got a regime that can’t admit defeat, a propaganda machine that can’t keep the story straight, and a population that’s starting to realize “victory is inevitable” means “we’ll lie until the last conscript is gone.” z-bloggers are stuck in a loop: if you tell the truth, you’re a traitor; if you repeat the party line, you look like an idiot when the next batch of pow selfies drops.

the kremlin’s biggest fear isn’t nato, it’s their own people figuring out the scoreboard. when the propaganda stops working, all that’s left is the reality they’ve been trying to bury under a mountain of bullshit. and right now, that reality is marching east, one liberated village at a time, while the regime’s best and brightest argue about who gets to hold the shovel.

russian propaganda: we glass london by tuesday. russian reality: the unit got wiped by a farmer with a drone and a grudge.
