Let’s get one thing straight: Putin doesn’t give a shit about Donbas.

putin cares about donbas like i care about the weather on mars. the whole “protecting russian speakers” shtick is just cosplay for the cameras, and donbas is the cardboard prop. if you think this war is about coal mines and some bombed-out flats, congrats, you’ve been mainlining kremlin tv. the real prize is ukraine itself, or more like making sure ukraine never stands up straight. the kremlin wants a puppet, not a neighbor, and they’ll break every toy in the box to get it.

control, not land

this is not about land, its about control. putin’s dream is to wipe out ukrainian independence, slap his sticker on kyiv, and call it “denazification” or whatever the buzzword of the week is. donbas is just the excuse, the lever, the “problem” he pokes to keep the war rolling. if it wasnt donbas, he’d find something else, probably invade over a parking ticket if he thought it’d get him another inch.

the whole “special operation” is just a rerun with new subtitles every week. the only thing consistent is the kremlin’s need to keep ukraine on a leash. every time they say “protecting russians,” just read it as “protecting my ego.”

the russian war machine: now hiring (desperate)

russia’s “second army of the world” is now a pyramid scheme with uniforms. contract signups are dropping like flies, even with record payouts. they’re throwing millions of rubles at anyone with a pulse, and still cant fill the ranks. in volgograd, they’re offering enough cash to buy a lada and a funeral, and people are still ghosting the recruiters.

the only thing growing faster than the casualty list is the price tag for cannon fodder. at some point, even the most brainwashed babushka has to wonder why the “special operation” needs so many dead volunteers. you know your war is going great when your top export is draft dodgers.

kremlin plan b: pray for western clownery

the kremlin’s backup plan is to hope western politics goes full circus. they’re banking on right-wing parties in europe to start carrying water for moscow. “alternative for germany” just pulled a record win in saxony-anhalt, and you know the fsb break room was popping champagne.

but even if europe gets a little more kremlin-curious, it doesnt fix russia’s real problem. you cant win a war with tweets and telegram bots when your army is running on empty and your best export is guys sprinting for the border.

donbas is just a pawn, the real game is ukraine’s independence, and putin’s only move is to keep flipping the board.

how this circus ends

there’s only one way out: take away putin’s motive or his means. as long as he thinks he can break ukraine, he’ll keep throwing bodies and rubles into the fire. sanctions, weapons, and ukrainian grit are bleeding his “possibilities” dry, but the motive—his obsession with control—wont die until he’s out of the picture or out of options.

donbas is just a pawn. the real game is ukraine’s independence, and the only way to stop the war is to make sure putin cant touch it, no matter how many times he changes the script. until then, expect more threats, more dead conscripts, and more kremlin cope. the circus isnt leaving town, but the tent’s looking real empty.

russian victory speeches hit different when they’re broadcast from 600 km behind the front and the only thing advancing is the price of potatoes.
